FESTIVAL INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

The Blackbird Film Festival is always looking for energetic interns interested in media production, advertising, public relations, and event planning to join the team! During festival preparation months (September to May) Blackbird interns work to make this crazy event come together - from securing sponsors, designing promotional events, curating film screenings, working closely with filmmakers, and so much more! So if you are super outgoing and love working with other people in a team environment, consider applying for the Event Coordinator position. If you're someone who loves watching films and works better independently then apply to be a Submission Judge. If offered the position, you'll be joining an amazing group of highly motivated individuals with who you'll definitely have some fantastic memories and lasting friendships!

Accepting Applications: October 1st - November 1st

Compensation: 3 credits + Blackbird SWAG

Event Coordinators are the wacky-fun face of Blackbird and they work tirelessly to bring the festival weekend to life. From developing community relations, running social media campaigns, coordinating special programming to event setup and director outreach - Blackbird Event Coordinators do it all! If you're an outgoing, self-motivated person who loves working in a team setting then this is the right position for you!

 

Event Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Design Marketing Strategies

  • Develop Partnerships / Sponsorships

  • Community / Student Outreach

  • Liaison for Directors / Filmmakers

  • Support / Assist Festival Attendees

  • Event Setup and Day-of Coordination

 

Internship Requirements:

  • Must be a student currently enrolled at SUNY Cortland

  • Must attend weekly meeting on campus (Date TBD)

  • Must be prompt and professional on email

  • Must be at least 18 years old

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Overall GPA of 3.2 or higher

  • Interest in Media Production and/or Event Planning

  • Outgoing personality

Submission Judges are the backbone of Blackbird and they work to curate the official selections from a pool of over 1500 film submissions. Submission judges need to have a sharp eye for production quality, character development, and overarching story themes. Submission judges must also be strong writers with a self-motivated personality. Aside from a weekly group meeting, 90% of this internship is completed independently using Youtube and Vimeo. Work schedules are extremely flexible to fit your schedule.

 

Submission Judge Responsibilities:

  • Watch and Review Weekly Film Assignments

  • Provide Constructive Critique  

  • Help to Curate Blackbird's Festival Program

 

Internship Requirements:

  • Must be a student currently enrolled at SUNY Cortland

  • Must attend weekly meeting on campus (Date TBD)

  • Must be able to meet deadlines

  • Must be at least 18 years old

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Have Taken Film Production / Analysis Classes

  • Major / Minor in Professional Writing or English

  • Highly Motivated Personality / Strong Self-Starter
