Top notch in every way. This is the best run festival I have ever attended. Stellar communication, great programming, and an army of exuberant interns make this festival a true gem.

Christina Raia

The festival interns did a wonderful job of welcoming people and keeping things moving smoothly throughout the festival weekend. I really enjoyed being part of Blackbird FF and will definitely submit future work.

Chelsea Gonzalez

I cannot speak highly enough about this film festival! What an incredible experience! The organizers are amazing and SO on top of it. If you can attend, GO! I have never been to a film festival where I have gotten so close with all of the other filmmakers. Truly love this festival and hope to attend many times in the future.

Lorraine Toth

I was beyond impressed with Blackbird's coordination, professionalism, award ceremony, promotion and social media skills. I highly recommend this festival. The awards and medals they gave out are gorgeous as well and to be treasured for years to come!

Riley Sugars

I made so many new friends and was so impressed with the festival. There is a real sense of friendship at Blackbird. Love you guys and will definitely be submitting next year.

ABOUT BLACKBIRD

At the Blackbird Film Festival, we strive to curate an inclusive festival atmosphere - an environment where experienced professionals and first time filmmakers can strike up conversation and perhaps take something away from one another. Blackbird was originally founded as a festival for student filmmakers but quickly opened its doors to all types of filmmakers in the spirit of collaboration and the sharing of ideas. With this in mind, Blackbird remains a festival geared towards the learning experience and attracts a large number of media production students. In addition, Blackbird also supports female filmmakers and is committed to ensuring our annual film line up is made up of at least 50% films made by women.

Now preparing for our 5th season, the 2019 Blackbird Film Festival will host a weekend of film screenings from April 26th to April 28nd in Cortland, NY. The festival is FREE for all to attend and prides itself on the high quality of films and filmmakers that fill the 10+ screening blocks throughout the weekend. Each year Blackbird screens between 120 and 150 films with an emphasis on short form production. In addition to the many wonderful films, Blackbird also offers a variety of mentor-ship opportunities, workshops, and industry talks geared toward the seasoned professional as well as the first-time director. For example, the 2018 lineup included a round table discussion with the NYS Governor's Office of Motion Picture and Television covering all things production in New York State as well as a special "Women in Film" screening followed by a moderated panel discussion addressing the many issues affecting female filmmakers working in the industry today and brainstorming ways in which we all can work together to create a more safe, fair, and productive work environment on set for everyone. Blackbird is also an intimate festival which makes it a great place to meet fellow filmmakers and form lasting bonds! As director Ben Tobin once put it, "Blackbird is not an assembly line festival, each film is given its due."

We've got big plans for the 2019 season as we continue to grow! Whether you're a filmmaker or just a film enthusiast, we hope you will join us this year and experience what makes the Blackbird Film Festival one of the "Top 100 Best Reviewed" festivals according to FilmFreeway!
