FILMS2020

The 2020 Blackbird Film Festival features 95 films organized into 14 unique SCREENING BLOCKS curated around themes, stories and styles. Each screening block is approximately 70 minutes and typically includes 6 - 8 short films ranging from 1 to 30 minutes. Immediately following each screening, filmmakers and actors in attendance will be available for a 20 minute moderated Q&A session with the audience. BLOCK A

Empowered, Motivated, Strong

Where: Center for the Arts of Homer

When: Thursday, October 1st from 4:30pm - 6:00pm​

Block A kicks off Blackbird 2020 with a wonderful selection of short films with inspiring stories of perseverance and determination! Watch as these motivated young people find their voice and overcome. This screening block is a great choice for the whole family!

Friday Night Frenzy

Where: SUNY Cortland - Old Main, Brown Auditorium

When: Friday, October 2nd from 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Start your Friday night off right with an entertaining mix of films spanning many genres and styles. From inspirational stories of acceptance and moving documentaries about the environment to bizarre dance parties and wild music videos, Friday Night Frenzy is sure to have something for every film enthusiast!

Crossing Borders

During this turbulent political time, these short films shed a light on the struggles of those trying to find a new home and start over. Whether it's an American doctor trying to adopt a Syrian orphan or a Mexican family trying to stay together in the United States, these stories will pull on the heartstrings and expose a system that is broken...

The Art of Life

Life is a very complicated journey... But perhaps art can help us discover and recover from the highs and lows. This beautiful assortment of films will make you think, cry and reflect on our history as well as our future. From the painful stories of a leather-artist to the magical lens of a photographer, these are stories you simply must see.

Zombies, Space & the Apocalypse

The title of this block pretty much sums it up...  If you're someone who enjoys a good old fashion apocalyptic zombie battle or tales of strange happenings from outer space, then this is definitely the block for you!

Stranger Danger

For better or worse, we're surrounded by strangers a lot of the time... These short films explore a variety of chance encounters with strangers - from finding love in unlikely places to the anxiety of meeting new people all while trying not to be murdered... This block covers all the bases and then some!

The Perfect YOU

A beautiful assortment of stories about people coming to love and embrace their true self. From the curious girl who connects with a lonely deaf boy to the teenage girl who finally comes out to her best friend, these films are artfully made and will surely make your heart swell.

Unleash the Beast

This assortment of short films proves that there's a beast in all of us, trying desperately to escape - literally! If you're a fan of thrillers and horror films with a hearty side of gore, this block of films is right for you! Just be sure not to eat before...

Surviving Loss

How do we continue when we lose someone special? This beautiful mix of fiction and nonfiction films that explore the various ways in which people recover from tremendous loss and find themselves again.

A wild mix of films in which the protagonists find themselves trapped in one way or another. Whether it be behind bars or in the troubled confines of their mind, these films will certainly make you feel a bit trapped yourself...

Toxic Love

Unfortunately, many of the protagonists in these films have found themselves in some pretty dysfunctional relationships that they just can't seem to escape... This block is definitely NOT suitable for children!

Makin' Babies & Stealin' Stuff

Hey! Sometimes you gotta take matters into your own hands if you want something... Whether it's trying to conceive a child with randos or make off with someone's stuff, these strangely-fun, somewhat-questionable films cover it all!

Daddy Issues

Having a good relationship with your father is great! Unfortunately, that is not the case for the characters in these films... From over bearing, super-masculinity to down-right crazy, these fathers have really done some damage...
