FILM SCREENING BLOCKS 2019
The 2019 Blackbird Film Festival features 12 film screening BLOCKS themed around a variety of stories and styles. Each BLOCK is approximately an hour long and typically includes 6 - 8 short films ranging from 1 to 30 minutes. Immediately following each BLOCK, filmmakers and actors in attendance will be available for a short moderated question and answer session with the audience.

Friday, April 26th from 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Block A kicks off Blackbird 2019 with a delightfully entertaining mix of films spanning many genres and styles. From heartfelt stories of personal growth and inspirational documentaries about the here-after to vividly poetic dance and uplifting comedies, Blackbird's Opening Night is sure to have something for every film enthusiast!
Saturday, April 27th from 9:00am - 10:30am

Growing up can be a real struggle... Especially for the assortment of young people featured in these short films. Whether you're grappling with the birds and the bees, struggling to make friends, or finally breaking away from your mother's hold, growing pains can be a real challenge.
Saturday, April 27th from 10:30am to 12:00pm
In a time when cyber-bullying is on the rise, isn't it about time we stand up and put a stop to the cruelty! The protagonists in these five inspiring films have had enough and refuse to be bullied any longer! This screening block is great for the entire family with important messages for us all to consider.
Love & Heartache
Saturday, April 27th from 2:00pm to 3:30pm

Unfortunately, it's true... Where there is love there is sure to be heartache as the many characters in these six films come to learn. From first love, dirty love, lost love, and even machine love... This mix of films explore the many aspects of that age old emotion.
Dating, Diddles & Dung
Saturday, April 27th from 3:30pm - 5:00pm
Sometimes being on the dating market can be a real crap-shoot... Literally! We make no apologies, this screening block is loaded with the bizarre, often disgusting, stories of those failed attempts at finding that special someone... This block is DEFINITELY not suitable for children (or adults for that matter) and we guarantee you'll feel weird after watching!
Albany to Buffalo
Saturday, April 27th from 7:00pm to 8:30pm

With so many talented filmmakers from western, central and upstate New York state, we just had to give them a screening block all to themselves! From funky and fun, to super weird and slightly disturbing, we invite you to see what our local filmmakers are up to these days!
The Dark Side
Saturday, April 27th from 8:30pm - 10:00pm
For those of you who like that creepy feeling right before bed, this is the block for you. With eight films ranging from eerie to scary to full on gory, you are sure to think someone is following you home after leaving this screening. Don't come looking for that "feel good" ending here because you won't find it! Not suitable for children or those with weak stomachs.

A beautiful assortment of films that highlight the various stages of motherhood in many wonderfully thoughtful ways. From the creation of life to the end of life and everything in between, these films reveal how special motherhood can be as well as the struggle many women face.
Expression, Inspiration & Meat
Sunday, April 28th from 10:30am to 12:00pm
Possibly one of our best block arrangements yet with many interesting plot twists, gripping narratives, original ideas, and of course, MEAT! We're not sure what mood you'll arrive in but we can ensure you'll leave feeling inspired and hungry! However, we better not say much more or else your head may explode...

While there may only be four films featured in this block, you will surely not be disappointed as these stories transport you into several, not-so-distant, futures. Join us and explore the effects of artificial intelligence, human cloning and your only opportunity to live forever.
Sunday, April 28th from 3:00pm to 4:30pm
In the mood for something serious? Look no further. This block features a variety of films that tell complex stories of people struggling with PTSD, depression, drug abuse and eating disorders. While the endings may not always be what you hope, you will certainly feel the raw emotion of the characters involved.
Life, Death & Family
Sunday, April 28th from 4:30pm to 6:00pm
In our final screening block of the festival weekend, we offer a selection of slightly-comical, slightly-sad, beautifully real films that highlight the way we deal with the life and death of our family members. From new beginnings, to final chapters, this block will take you on an emotional journey.
