About the Venue

Brown Auditorium Theater

SUNY Cortland's historic Brown Auditorium Theater has been home to the Blackbird Film Festival since renovations were completed in 2018. The theater seats 500 guests comfortably and boosts a 25' screen with 5.1 surround sound. Located on the main floor in Old Main, the space is perfect for creating the inclusive festival atmosphere Blackbird is known for.

Travel Options

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Blackbird by Air

Visiting from far away? No worries, there are several airports in the central New York area that will get you close to Cortland. However, visitors will likely need to rent a car as the Syracuse and Ithaca airports are still a bit of a distance away from the main festival venue.

Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport (30 minutes from Cortland)

Syracuse Hancock International Airport (45 minutes from Cortland)

Greater Binghamton Airport (45 minutes from Cortland)

Greater Rochester International Airport (2 hours from Cortland)

We suggest flying into Syracuse (SYR) and renting a car for the weekend. Central New York is somewhat rural and visitors may appreciate having access to a car during their stay. While the Ithaca (ITH) airport is closer, it is much smaller with fewer travel options available.

Blackbird by Bus / Train

Traveling directly to Cortland by bus or train is an easy and affordable option for filmmakers visiting from New York City! Greyhound and New York Trailways offer bus and motor coach service with drop off in Cortland. Or the Amtrak train can get you to Syracuse where you can catch a bus or rent a car for the final leg of your journey. Once within the city of Cortland, taxi and limousine services, as well as Cortland Transit, make traveling easy.

Blackbird by Car

Whether you are planning on renting a car or looking to bounce around once you arrive, the following transportation information may be helpful. However, please know that ALL festival activities will be within walking distance of Brown Auditorium Theater and so a car will not likely be needed once you arrive
